Please join the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center on Monday, May 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. ET for our natural gas roundtable, a private event. The discussion will feature two panels—the first of which will focus on the changing seasonality of natural gas demand, and a second panel to discuss financing methane removal.

The first panel will discuss the changing seasonality of natural gas demand. Namely, winter’s prominence in world natural gas markets is diminishing as climate change and new energy technologies moderate Europe’s natural gas demand in the winter months. On the other hand, global summer gas demand is also impacted by rising summer temperatures. We will examine these trends’ impacts on global natural gas markets.

Our second panel will discuss financing methane abatement. Due to methane’s incredible potency as a greenhouse gas, with a warming effect of at least eighty times that of carbon dioxide over a twenty-year timespan, financing methane abatement is as imperative to achieving net-zero as other forms of climate finance. This is particularly true in the near term, where reducing methane emissions by 75 percent by 2030 is crucial to achieving a trajectory to emissions neutrality, and implementing COP28 commitments. Join us as we discuss the path forward for increasing the scale of financing for methane abatement.

This is a private, off-the-record roundtable under Chatham House rules. Please note in-person registration is at capacity. Register through the form on the webpage to receive further information on how to join the discussion virtually.
