At this book launch event, Dr. Raj Panjabi draws upon his experiences in the emergency room and the White House to share lessons for navigating high-pressure environments and building crisis leadership skills.

On Friday, October 30 at 1:30 p.m. ET, the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense at the Atlantic Council will host a book launch event featuring Dr. Raj Panjabi, a commissioner on the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense who served as White House senior director for global health security and biodefense during the Biden administration. His book, Safer: A Playbook—Turning Fear into Action and Crisis into Community, draws on lessons from his time as an emergency room physician and in the White House.

When crisis hits—a sudden illness, a global disruption, or a career upheaval—people’s instinct often is to retreat. Yet decades of research prove that the greatest protection isn’t isolation, it’s connection.

In this conversation with moderator Sam Vinograd, Panjabi will discuss a practical roadmap for navigating crises, drawing on both storytelling and science. He will break down the book’s eight “plays” to protect what matters most at home and work.

The panel will be followed by a book signing opportunity with the author.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.

By registering to attend in-person, you agree to abide by the Atlantic Council’s Event Code of Conduct.
