This discussion explores the future of digital finance, including the rise of stablecoins, asset tokenization, cross-border payments, and the IMF’s role in shaping the global monetary system amid rapid technological change.

On Wednesday, June 17, at 12:00 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s GeoEconomics Center will host a conversation with Dan Katz, first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). This event will focus on the rapidly evolving future of finance, from the expanding role of stablecoins to the emergence of asset tokenization and the broader implications for cross-border payments and countries’ policies.

As digital payment systems gain traction and sovereign and private digital monies move from concept to deployment, the IMF stands at the center of the policy debate. The IMF aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the international monetary system, engage with members on modernization of their payment systems, and provide guidance to countries on how to mitigate emerging risks.

Katz will offer the IMF’s perspective on what digital money means for monetary sovereignty, capital flows, and financial stability.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
