Please join the Atlantic Council for a public conversation on “The Next Battle for the Atlantic? A Conversation with Admiral James G. Foggo on Transatlantic Security,” as part of the Atlantic Council’s Commanders Series.

Admiral James G. Foggo, III, Commander of US Naval Forces Europe, Commander of US Naval Forces Africa, and Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples will join us on Friday, October 5, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to10:00 a.m. at The Army and Navy Club (901 17th St NW, Washington, DC 20006). Registration and a light breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Sea power was a critical part of NATO’s deterrence posture throughout the Cold War and is again coming into focus as NATO adapts to tackle the new European and global security environment. In response to continued Russian aggressiveness and a resurgent Russian navy the Transatlantic Alliance must develop and hone credible maritime capabilities to provide effective defense and deterrence. The upcoming flagship NATO exercise Trident Juncture 2018, consisting of 40,000 personnel and seventy ships from all twenty-nine Allies and partner nations, will test NATO’s ability to plan and conduct a major collective defense operation in and around Norway and the North Atlantic.

In command of Trident Juncture 2018 and drawing on more than three decades of distinguished service in the US Navy, Admiral Foggo will join us to discuss the wide range of challenges facing NATO in the maritime domain and beyond. In this conversation moderated by Atlantic Council Senior Fellow Ian Brzezinski, Admiral Foggo will discuss transatlantic maritime operations and strategy, and the importance of Trident Juncture 2018 in the air and ashore as well.

Register now by clicking the RSVP button above. We hope you can join us for what promises to be a fascinating discussion.
