On Monday, February 3 at 12:00 p.m. ET, the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC), will host a virtual discussion on the implications of Ecuador’s presidential elections for national and hemispheric security.

Ecuadorians will head to the polls on February 9 to elect their president for the next four years with the outcome certain to have a profound impact on the country’s approach to two pressing issues: insecurity and economic opportunities. From Ecuador’s strategic position in the Pacific supply chain for drugs and illicit trade to recent developments such as the US designation of cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, the country will continue to be at the forefront of countering organized crime in the region.

Join us for this timely conversation as we explore what the future may hold for Ecuador and the region. Speakers will analyze Ecuador’s fragmented political landscape, the future of US-Ecuador relations in the security sphere, and how changes in leadership could impact regional trends, including efforts to address crime and illicit trade.
