Aiko Shimizu’s career spans several sectors, including the private, public and non-profit sectors across the United States, Japan and Germany. She is the General Manager of the New York office of SHARE NOW (formerly car2go), the world’s largest car sharing provider and a joint venture between BMW and Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz. As General Manager, she heads the NYC office and manages policy and regulatory strategy, government relations, strategic partnerships and business development. In addition to her fellowship with the Atlantic Council, she is a BMW Foundation Responsible Leader, Salzburg Global Fellow and the Asia Society’s Asia 21 Young Leader. Prior to car2go, Ms. Shimizu worked on various international issues at Daimler, Bloomberg New Energy Finance, United Nations and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. She has also held fellowships at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Pacific Forum CSIS, Mansfield Foundation and the East-West Center in Washington. Ms. Shimizu received her graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). She received her Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Chicago.
