Politics & DiplomacyErin Clancy is a career Foreign Service Officer currently serving as a special assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State. Her previous diplomatic assignments include tours in Syria, Jordan, the Sultanate of Oman, and the State Department’s Office of United Nations Political Affairs where she was responsible for coordinating US policy on Libya and Syria in the UN Security Council. In 2013, Ms. Clancy was recognized as a foreign policy “innovator” for her political reporting in the first two years of Syria’s civil war by the Diplomatic Courier’s annual list of the Top 99 Foreign Policy Professionals Under 33. Erin has received numerous State Department awards for meritorious service. She is currently a Council on Foreign Relations Term Member as well as an alumna of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) Next Generation National Security Leaders Program; the Truman National Security Project; and the Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship. She is a graduate of Whittier College and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
