Mayra Tenorio

Mayra Tenorio is the associate director of the Millennium Leadership Program at the Atlantic Council. In this role, she manages the design and implementation of the Millennium Fellowship and alumni engagement initiatives.

Tenorio has built her career creating dynamic programs that foster leadership development and global engagement among young professionals. Before joining the Atlantic Council, she managed a portfolio of leadership programs and grantmaking initiatives at Vital Voices Global Partnership, supporting women entrepreneurs and social sector leaders around the world.

Previously, Tenorio was a visiting fellow at Ewha Womans University’s Women’s Studies Center in Seoul, South Korea, where she advanced efforts to expand academic programs and professional networks for women across the Asia-Pacific region. During her time in Seoul, she also designed leadership programs and cross-cultural curricula for the Asia Foundation and EducationUSA Korea, a US Department of State network.

Tenorio has worked in South Korea, the United Kingdom, Guatemala, Argentina, and the Dominican Republic on initiatives focused on gender-based violence prevention and women’s empowerment, collaborating with nonprofits and grassroots organizations. She holds an MPhil in multidisciplinary gender studies from the University of Cambridge and a BA in sociology and anthropology from Swarthmore College. She is a Luce scholar, Gates Cambridge scholar, and Thomas J. Watson fellow.
