Reevana Balmahoon is a 2022 Atlantic Council fellow, participant on the 2024 Executive Leadership Intensive, and an artificial-intelligence and extended-reality lead at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research. She is an engineer continuously working to ensure an equitable future by developing inclusivity and diversity in technology. Balmahoon is also a senior leader and tech specialist at WomHub, a global social enterprise. She has previously worked in positions to lead innovation across Africa for Vodafone’s subsidiary, Vodacom, and was a senior manager in strategic analytics after her role as a senior data scientist. She has delivered keynote addresses on various key technology stages, including those hosted by the World Engineering Education Forum, the Global Engineering Dean’s Council, and Cambridge University. Balmahoon is a member of the Institute of Directors in South Africa and is a board member at various startups.

Balmahoon holds a PhD in engineering from University of the Witwatersrand, an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and a professional artificial intelligence certificate from Stanford University. She has volunteered at various community initiatives (including over ten years of mentoring for science, technology, engineering, and math capacity development and wellbeing meditation course facilitation). Balmahoon has a passion for all things technology, fostering growth and prosperity in developing nations, and engineering sustainable societies for the future.
