Romesh Ratnesar is senior vice president for engagement at the Atlantic Council. He was previously a member of the editorial board of Bloomberg Opinion, where he covered national security, immigration, and economic issues. From 2015 to 2017, he served in the US State Department as chief of staff to the under secretary of state for public affairs and public diplomacy. Prior to joining government, Ratnesar was the deputy editor and international editor of Bloomberg Businessweek and spent more than a dozen years as an editor and foreign correspondent at Time Magazine. Ratnesar is the author of Tear Down This Wall: A City, a President and the Speech that Ended the Cold War, and his work has appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the New Republic, Slate, Washingtonian, Washington Monthly, and Airmail News. He is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a French-American Foundation young leader, and a former New America fellow. He has an MA and BA in history from Stanford University and lives with his family in Washington, DC.
