On August 5, Senior Fellow Dexter Tiff Roberts published an article, “Jeep shuts China factory as decoupling continues,” in SupChina. Roberts discusses Jeep’s decision to close its last remaining factory in China, over broken trust with the Chinese government. More broadly, he describes the larger picture for multinationals in China as “not pretty,” due to factors such as disruptive pandemic controls, government favoritism, and concern for future sanctions targeted at China.
