The Power of Sports Embassy Dialogues: Brazil and Morocco

As Brazil and Morocco prepare to face each other in their World Cup opening match, their US ambassadors discuss the economic and geopolitical role of sports.

On Friday, June 5, at 9:00 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center will host a high-level conversation featuring Ambassador of Brazil to the United States Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti and Ambassador of Morocco to the United States Youssef Amrani.

Ahead of Brazil and Morocco’s June 13 World Cup matchup, this special embassy dialogue will explore the future of Brazil-Morocco relations, with a focus on Brazil’s storied World Cup legacy and Morocco’s upcoming landmark role as a co-host of the 2030 FIFA World Cup. A networking breakfast will take place before the event.

About the series

The embassy dialogues series explores national sports policies, the role of sports in economic and social development, and the growing importance of sports diplomacy as a tool of strategic influence and international partnership. The series is part of the Atlantic Council’s Power of Sports Program, which leverages major global events to advance diplomacy and development during the broader US “decade of sports,” as the country prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2028 Summer Olympics, and the 2034 Winter Olympics.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
