On Monday, January 26, at 10:00 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council will host a conversation examining whether today’s rapid acceleration in artificial intelligence investment reflects durable long-term fundamentals or signals the emergence of a speculative bubble.

As AI drives unprecedented demand for compute, data centers, semiconductors, electricity, talent, and capital, questions of sustainability and systemic risk have come to the forefront. Governments and markets alike are grappling with how to balance innovation, competitiveness, and resilience amid massive infrastructure buildouts and evolving economic pressures.

This discussion will explore the dynamics shaping the current AI investment surge, the structural constraints that could amplify volatility, and the long-term factors that distinguish hype cycles from genuine technological transformation. The panelists will assess the resilience of the AI ecosystem, the fragility of supply chains, the role of private capital, and the broader implications for national security and global economic stability.

This event will take place in person at the Atlantic Council’s headquarters in Washington, DC, and will be followed up by a cocktail reception. The event will be live streamed on ACTV, YouTube, and X.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time. Registration for this event will close at 5:00 p.m. ET the day prior.
