Middle EastIngrid Small is the deputy director of the Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council.
Small served as a senior analyst and analytic methodologist in the US intelligence community for over three decades, during which she focused primarily on the Middle East and South Asia. As part of this work, she assessed risks and opportunities for the United States on topics including insurgency, political instability, terrorism, and weapons proliferation.
Additionally, Small directed governance analysis across the US intelligence community and was a co-author of Global Trends: Paradox of Progress as a member of the National Intelligence Council’s Strategic Futures Group. In addition, Small advanced legislation and conducted policy research for the Senate Commerce Committee as an American Political Science Association congressional fellow.
Small holds a master of arts from George Washington University in international affairs, with a focus on health and development, and a bachelor of arts in political science from Loyola College (now University) in Baltimore, Maryland.
