PAHPA 101 briefing hosted by the Congressional Pandemic Preparedness Caucus

In anticipation of the reauthorization of the Pandemics and All-Hazard Preparedness Act (PAHPA), the bipartisan Congressional Pandemic Preparedness Caucus for the 118th Congress requested the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense develop and present a PAHPA 101 briefing for better educate Congressional staff on the bill.

In anticipation of the reauthorization of the Pandemics and All-Hazard Preparedness Act (PAHPA), the bipartisan Congressional Pandemic Preparedness Caucus for the 118th Congress requested the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense develop and present a PAHPA 101 briefing for better educate Congressional staff on the bill.  This briefing, presented by Executive Director Asha M George, will be held virtually on May 4, 2023 from 9:30-10:30am.

The Pandemic Preparedness Caucus was formed to better equip the United States in its fight against future pandemics. The caucus aims to take lessons from the COVID-19 emergency to provide results-driven, bipartisan policy solutions and to ensure that the US is best situated to respond rapidly and effectively to future and emerging disease outbreaks and biothreats.

This caucus consists of Members of Congress who are committed to addressing pandemic-related issues in a meaningful, bipartisan manner.

Caucus Key Points:

  • Representatives Lori Trahan (D-MA), Troy Balderson (R-OH), Susie Lee (D-NV), and Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA) are co-chairing this caucus;
  • The caucus will focus on our national and congressional response to COVID-19 and apply lessons-learned to ensure our country is ready for future public health emergencies and viral outbreaks before they emerge;
  • The Co-Chairs will circulate a regular staff newsletter to convene information and serve as a resource for offices belonging to the caucus.
