Aaron Sherman is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Forward Defense program and the editor-in-chief of the ReForge Commission. He was formerly speechwriter to the thirty-fifth deputy secretary of defense.
As speechwriter to the deputy secretary of defense, he led message development with a focus on strategic competition, innovation, and US deterrence. Prior to that, he held senior speechwriting roles at the Office of Science and Technology Policy and at the Rockefeller Foundation. There, he advised on messaging surrounding technology, national security issues, global development, and innovation. He was senior speechwriter to the twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth secretaries of defense.
Sherman holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of California, Davis, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society.
