NATO Recognizes Achivements by Croatia, EU, Serbia, and Kosovo

President Ivo Josipovic of Croatia and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, June 7, 2011

From NATO:  As Croatia prepares to become a member of the European Union on July 1, I congratulate the Croatian government and the people of Croatia for this important step in completing a Europe that is whole, free and at peace. Croatia is a valued NATO ally and a role model of successful Euro-Atlantic integration for the whole region.

At the same time, I welcome the European Union’s decisions to open accession talks with Serbia, and to begin negotiations on a Stabilisation and Association agreement with Kosovo. These decisions show how much can be achieved through reform and dialogue. I look forward to the consistent implementation of the European Union-facilitated agreement between Belgrade and Pristina. KFOR will continue to play its role by ensuring a safe and secure environment for all people in Kosovo.  This is a time of great opportunity for the whole region. I encourage  all leaders and all communities to continue on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration.
