On May 25th, the Atlantic Council’s Global Business and Economics Program together with the Millennium Leadership Program hosted a panel discussion with a delegation of high executives from Santander Bank. The discussion centered around how economic sanctions affect the banking sector and the priorities of the current administration in this area.

The event featured Mr. Andrew Keller, Partner at Hogan Lovells; Mr. Michael B. Greenwald, Senior Vice President at Tiedemann Wealth Management, and was moderated by Ms. Kerry Contini, Partner at Baker & McKenzie LLP.

The event covered the development, implementation, and enforcement of sanctions and secondary sanctions over the last year. There was a lively discussion on the best practices, past errors, and future of sanctions, as well as the private sector’s response to the current uncertainty and volatility in sanctions policy. Cases reviewed included Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba.
