Please join the Atlantic Council Global Energy Center on Friday, October 21, from 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. for a hybrid fireside chat with H.E. Václav Bartuška, Czech ambassador-at-large for energy security, on coordinating transatlantic solidarity amid energy supply shocks.

Russia continues attacking Europe’s energy security as part of its war against Ukraine. To negate Russia’s energy leverage, the continent must ensure its energy security for this winter while building a more secure and sustainable energy system for the future.

Central and Eastern Europe has anticipated the threats of Russian energy leverage, leading the way in Europe’s plans to diversify its energy systems. Now, hosting the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Czech Republic is faced with the monumental challenge of leading the bloc towards a coordinated approach to reduce prices, scale up supplies, and stay on track to meet climate targets and end the region’s reliance on Russian energy sources.

In a public fireside chat with Olga Khakova, deputy director for European energy security at the Global Energy Center, Ambassador Bartuška will outline the European Union’s latest efforts to support households and industry while maintaining solidarity across Europe. The conversation will also identify avenues for US engagement. Ambassador Richard Morningstar, founding chairman of the Global Energy Center and former US ambassador to the European Union, will deliver opening remarks.

This discussion will take place live at Atlantic Council headquarters and will be broadcast over Zoom, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. To receive the event information, please register below. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with information on how to join the event. If you wish to join the question-and-answer period, you must join in-person or through Zoom.
