Please join the Atlantic Council's Strategy Initiative and the Pew Research Center on Wednesday, June 24, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the release of the results on their new “US Image and Balance of Power” survey.

The United States is in the midst of another presidential campaign, one that is likely to feature foreign policy issues prominently, with the question of what role America should play in the world taking center stage. So far, however, it’s been mostly Americans talking to Americans about what our role should be and how we are perceived around the world.

This survey is part of the Pew Research Center's annual examination of public opinion throughout the world, ranging from people’s assessments of their own lives to their attitudes about the current state of the world, including views of the United States, its foreign policy, and how it compares with China. This year, the survey featured critical questions on international and domestic perceptions of major policy initiatives in national defense and homeland security, as well as international economics, finance, and trade.

In addition to a presentation by Dr. Richard Wike, Director of Global Attitudes Research at the Pew Research Center, moderated by Atlantic Council Vice President and Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security Director Mr. Barry Pavel, the event will feature a panel discussion with leading experts in the field of US foreign policy: Zalmay Khalilzad Chair on Afghanistan Ambassador James B. Cunningham will assess the findings in the poll from a “soft power” perspective; Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the American University’s School of International Service Dr. Nora Bensahel will apply a “hard power” prism to the results of the poll; and doctoral candidate at Kings College London Ms. Claire Yorke will look at the demographic aspects of the polling data from a “next-generation” perspective.  The event will feature an audience poll on key questions from the Pew Research Center's survey so that we can compare our results with the broader findings. We hope you can join us for what is sure to be a thought-provoking and exciting discussion.
