Please join us on Thursday, November 6, for a unique conversation with former Polish Prime Minister Jan Krzysztof Bielecki and former United States Senator Richard Lugar, as part of the annual Bronislaw Geremek Lecture. The Atlantic Council, in cooperation with the Government of Poland, began this lecture series in 2009 as a tribute to the late Professor Bronislaw Geremek and his legacy of supporting democracy.  Geremek, a legendary leader of the Solidarity movement and former Polish minister of foreign affairs, is celebrated as one of the architects of a modern and democratic Poland.

One of the Atlantic Council’s flagship events, the lecture series serves to remind us that much of Europe would not be democratic today without the courageous individuals who rose up in the Gdansk shipyard, beginning a continent-wide movement toward freedom. This year the Geremek Lecture takes place as we witness severe challenges to our most fundamental democratic values in Central and Eastern Europe, most notably Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in response to that country's choice to be guided by the values that underline the transatlantic partnership.
