On Wednesday, October 7 at 3:30 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center and Europe Center hosted a conversation featuring members of the Spanish Women’s National Team coaching staff to explore the growing role of women’s football as a platform for international engagement.
The Spanish men’s team is not the country’s only FIFA world champion. The Spanish women’s team also won the World Cup title in 2023. On October 10, in a friendly match at Audi Field in Washington, DC, Spain will face the four-time World Cup champion US Women’s National Team. Ahead of the match, this discussion examines the evolution of the women’s game, the impact of sports on society, and the opportunities for international partnership through sports.
