On Tuesday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center will host a discussion on Russia’s strikes against Ukraine’s railways and escalating attacks against Europe.
On September 13, a Russian jet-powered Geran-5 drone struck a passenger train in a Ukrainian station two kilometers from the Polish border, concentrating global attention on Moscow’s latest attack. A diplomatic train carrying former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had just passed through, and former CIA Director David Petraeus was aboard another train close to the station. The near miss highlights the Kremlin’s increasingly reckless strikes on civilian infrastructure in Ukraine and its expanding campaign of violence against NATO countries.
This conversation will explore why Moscow feels it can attack civilians with impunity and how the United States and Europe can more effectively counter Russian aggression.
