This year marks the thirtieth anniversary of the first Summit of the Americas. With the tenth summit fast approaching in 2025-taking place in the Dominican Republic-this is a moment to learn from past experiences and create an inclusive summit process that platforms Caribbean perspectives at a hemispheric level.
Given the Caribbean’s vulnerabilities to climate change and high electricity prices, the event identified cross-sector policy and investment opportunities to strengthen climate and energy resilience in the region. These insights and perspectives will help shape a Caribbean-oriented agenda at the next Summit and include holistic, diverse perspectives from US and Caribbean government officials, representatives from regional and multilateral development banks, and the business community, and civil society representatives.
Watch the event by the Atlantic Council and the U.S. Department of State in Trinidad and Tobago-the first and only Caribbean country to host a Summit-as we celebrate the three decades of hemispheric cooperation and chart new Caribbean-focused ideas for the next Summit in 2025.
The event was hosted by the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center and Caribbean Initiative on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. ET (2:00 p.m. Trinidad and Tobago time).
