Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 challenged much of the common Western understanding of Russia. How can the world better understand Russia? What are the steps forward for Western policy? The Eurasia Center’s new “Russia Tomorrow” series seeks to reevaluate conceptions of Russia today and better prepare for its future tomorrow.

On Wednesday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center is hosting a panel of experts to launch the newest Russia Tomorrow report and discuss what the West can do to improve its security against Russian revanchism and the kremligarchs that enable it globally.

By the time Russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine in February 2022, the Kremlin’s kleptocracy had achieved substantial global reach, inserting itself in key global financial and political institutions and serving as loyal agents of the Kremlin’s imperial ambitions abroad.

In the latest Atlantic Council Russia Tomorrow report, Sanctioned kleptocracy: How Putin’s kremligarchs have survived the war—and even prospered, author Ilya Zaslavskiy assesses how Russia’s kleptocratic networks infiltrated the West, explores how those networks have changed since the 2022 invasion, and outlines measures the United States and Europe can take to combat the malign influence of Russian kleptocracy around the globe.
