The latest report in the Atlantic Council’s Russia Tomorrow series examines four broad pathways for Chechnya as warlord leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s faces new stresses to his grip on power.

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 challenged much of the common Western understanding of Russia. How can the world better understand Russia? What are the steps forward for Western policy? The Eurasia Center’s “Russia Tomorrow” series seeks to reevaluate conceptions of Russia today and better prepare for its future tomorrow.

On Thursday, May 21 at 1:30 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center will host an event launching the newest report in its pathbreaking Russia Tomorrow series examining four broad pathways for Chechnya as warlord leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s faces new stresses to his grip on power.

The latest Russia Tomorrow report, The Kadyrov question: Who rules Chechnya next? by author Marat Iliyasov, visiting assistant professor at the College of the Holy Cross, assesses how four pathways might produce different outcomes for the future of Chechnya, the Putin regime in Moscow, and the Russian Federation.

Brian Whitmore, nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center, moderates this hybrid report launch discussion on how power dynamics in Chechnya may shape Russia’s future.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
