On Wednesday, May 20 at 12:15 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC) will host an in-person conversation with US Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH), one of two Colombian-American lawmakers in the US Senate, on Colombia’s upcoming presidential election.
The election is entering its final stretch, with international observation missions deploying across the country and security institutions reinforcing their commitment to respond to rising violence. In Washington, the vote is drawing attention given its implications for the future of US-Colombia ties.
The discussion will explore the electoral environment, including security conditions and efforts to ensure a free and fair electoral process, as well as the broader bilateral relationship. It builds on AALAC’s ongoing work on the elections, including the publication, “How Colombia can reduce security threats ahead of its presidential election,” by the US-Colombia Strategic Alignment Coalition, and a recent conversation with Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ).
New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
