Please join the Atlantic Council on Tuesday, September 6 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for a discussion on the evolving cyber threats facing the Asia-Pacific as we approach the one-year anniversary of the Obama-Xi cyber deal.

A sense of anarchy has gripped the cyber landscape in the Asia-Pacific: Advanced Persistent Threat actors (APT) are relentlessly targeting the region's growing industry sectors. Taiwan has faced an avalanche of cyberattacks against its newly elected government. Territorial disputes in the South China Sea steer major cyber espionage attacks against China's competing claimants to the waters, all the while Anonymous and other non-state hackers leak voter databases, target military juntas, and deface government websites across the region.

Despite the tumultuous state of cyber affairs in the Asia-Pacific, recent reports indicate a staggering drop in Chinese hacking activities since the September 2015 agreement between the US and Chinese presidents. To what extent does this trend apply to China's neighbors? How do the region's fluid geopolitics drive cyber campaigns? And how can the public and private sector in the Asia-Pacific better avoid falling easy prey to the attackers?

This event is jointly hosted by the Council's Cyber Statecraft Initiative and Asia Security Initiative as part of the Cross-Strait Series, examining strategic and current affairs surrounding cross-straits relations.

A reception will follow the event.
