Over the past fifty years, major international agreements forged by American diplomats and negotiators— from the opening to China to the Abraham Accords— have transformed the world. Through war and peace, diplomacy has proven an essential tool of statecraft, enabling US global leadership to advance freedom, prosperity and security.

What lessons can we learn from the United States’ major diplomatic successes and failures of the last half-century? How were pivotal discussions brought to the negotiating table, and what determined their success or failure? What advice do expert diplomats have for addressing today’s foreign policy challenges?

Please join the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security on Wednesday, June 12, at 2:00 p.m. ET for a discussion on the art of diplomacy with Amb. Stuart Eizenstat, Amb. Paula Dobriansky, Amb. Ronald Neumann, and Amb. John Negroponte.

This event will also serve as an opportunity to launch a new book by Ambassador Eizenstat, The Art of Diplomacy: How American Negotiators Reached Historic Agreements that Changed the World. The book represents the views of the author and does not necessarily represent the views of the Atlantic Council as an organization.

A 3:00 p.m. book signing with the author will follow the conversation. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on site.

This public event is open to the press and will take place in-person at the Atlantic Council and via livestream.
