As global energy demand increases and calls to address the growing climate crisis intensifies, the Caribbean’s rich biodiversity and emerging energy sector positions the region as a destination for innovative policymaking and foreign investment. Countries such as Suriname are on the frontlines of global attention due to newfound oil and gas reserves and its forest coverage. 2024 promises to be a year of opportunity for Suriname, from deepening collaboration with partners like the United States to developing its energy, climate, and economic landscape.

The Atlantic Council’s Caribbean Initiative at the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center and the Global Energy Center hosted an in-person conversation on Thursday, February 1, at 12:15 p.m. ET with three Suriname ministers: Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Albert Ramdin; Minister of Natural Resources Hon. David Abiamofo; and Minister of Justice and Police Hon. Kenneth Amoski. The conversation highlighted Suriname and the Caribbean’s trajectory amid global economic changes.
