Andrew Gumbiner is a nonresident senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center and the senior director for communications and policy strategy at the Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

Prior to his role at CGEP, Gumbiner was the founder of AJG Strategies, a public affairs consultancy based in Washington, DC, which focused on advising energy sector and industrial cybersecurity clients on strategic communications and public-policy issues. Before starting AJG Strategies in 2019, Gumbiner was a spokesman for Siemens USA, managing public affairs for the company’s energy and cybersecurity business and serving as an advisor to the US chief executive officer.

Previously, Gumbiner served in the Obama administration as the press secretary and spokesman at the US Department of Energy (DOE) and as aide to former US Secretary of energy Ernest Moniz. Before his role as DOE press secretary, Gumbiner was the spokesman and head of communications for the DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy and worked as a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton. Gumbiner was a communications director in the US House of Representatives, and he started his career as a press aide in the House Democratic Caucus.

Gumbiner received his BA from Hamilton College and his MA from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies.
