Europe & EurasiaBecky Waite is a 2024 Millennium fellow and is the head of global response at OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research laboratory and the creator of ChatGPT. She is responsible for cross-company incident response, including efforts to proactively prepare for—and respond in real-time to—critical moments, such as international elections or civil unrest. Previously, she worked at Meta (formerly Facebook), where she directed efforts for the 2022 US elections and, before that, helped create the company’s global civic policies and voter-empowerment products. She began her career in the nonprofit and public sectors, including working as a fellow for a member of parliament in the United Kingdom. Waite holds a bachelor’s degree in government from Dartmouth College and a master’s degree in international relations from the London School of Economics. In addition to her duties at OpenAI, she serves on the Aspen Institute’s AI & Democracy Advisory Council.
