Daniel Calingaert is a nonresident senior fellow with the Scowcroft Strategy Initiative at the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. He is also the managing director of the Open Society University Network and dean for global programs at Bard College. He previously served as executive vice president of Freedom House and director for Asia at the International Republican Institute.

He has taught at Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies, and American University.

Calingaert’s work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, American Interest, CNN, Politico, the Hill, Newsweek, the Guardian, Journal of Democracy, Policy Review, and Journal of Strategic Studies.

He earned a BA in international relations from Tufts University and MPhil and DPhil from Oxford University.
