
John Helin

John Helin is a visiting fellow with the Transatlantic Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. In this role, he focuses on the future of the US defensive alliances with the Nordic countries as well as the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Previously, Helin has worked at the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, where his work focused on European security and defense. He is also one of the founders of Black Bird Group, a Finnish nongovernmental organization focused on monitoring the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Russian activity near Finland. Helin holds a master of social science and bachelor of social science in political history from the University of Helsinki.
