SpanishYarely Madrid is a nonresident journalist fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Global China Hub. Based in Honduras, Madrid is an investigative journalist who has been writing about China’s influence in Honduras and Central America for two years. She writes about current events in Latin America and transparency issues in Honduras. She works for the Central American investigative magazine, Expediente Público.
Madrid participated as an international observer in the general elections of El Salvador in 2024. Previously, she has served as a fellow at the International Women’s Media Foundation and as a fellow at Climate Tracker.
Madrid’s research on China has been cited by the Asia Pacific Yearbook of El Colegio de México and in the report “Exporting Autocracy: China’s Role in Democratic Backsliding in Latin America and the Caribbean” by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
