About the project

In partnership with the Korea Foundation, the Atlantic Council’s Indo-Pacific Security Initiative (IPSI) will host the third iteration of its Next Generation Agenda project series. Early and mid-career experts are invited to join in shaping an action-oriented agenda for furthering ROK-US-Australia security cooperation.

In light of the changing threat landscape of the Indo-Pacific, the Republic of Korea and Australia have consistently been building upon cooperation as two “middle powers” in a region of ever-growing importance. At the same time, the two countries have been bolstering their bilateral alliances with the United States, as well as building their bilateral and multilateral collaboration regionally. To that end, this project will take an impact-oriented approach to building collaboration and understanding between the ROK, the United States, and Australia. It will focus on defining areas in which targeted, flexible, and informal cooperative arrangements between the parties can provide clear mutual benefit to all, creating a foundation for deeper collaboration moving forward.

This project will convene a network of rising experts through two private roundtables, the insights from which will inform the development of an issue brief. Select participants will have the opportunity to contribute as a co-author, and to speak at a public launch event exploring the analyses and recommendations developed over the course of the project.
