The Atlantic Council participated in the only major pre-NATO summit conference held in the United States, co-hosted with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and several international partners March 28-30.

This policy conference examined the key topics to be discussed by NATO Heads of State at the summit in May, including; collective defense in a time of austerity, Smart Defense, Afghanistan, strategic partnerships, and relations with Russia.

Atlantic Council Board director and former US Under Secretary of State R. Nicholas Burns presented the findings from an Atlantic Council report he has developed assessing the major strategic challenges facing NATO in the future. View his speech below.
