Please join the Atlantic Council for a private, off-the-record discussion about Tunisia’s democratic transition with Molly Byrne, Tunisia Country Representative for the US Agency for International Development’s Office of Transition Initiatives. Byrne led programs in support of the transition and piloted other efforts to counter violent extremism, and will be in Washington to share her insights about the current situation in the North African country.
 
Despite two high-profile political assassinations and escalating political tensions, Tunisia’s transition has advanced considerably since last year, notably with the adoption of one of the region’s most progressive constitutions. However, as the country prepares for parliamentary and presidential elections later this year, extremism (particularly in the border regions) challenges the national security apparatus, economic recovery is slow, and political mistrust remains high.
 
Please join us as we explore Tunisia’s transition and the US government’s role in helping the country to overcome these obstacles.
