Cities in an Age of Insecurity

Please join the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security for a discussion on the sources of insecurity in the world’s cities, and potential solutions to these challenges. As the world system is increasingly shaped by urbanization, threats to the world’s cities in turn imperil that system. How can the world’s cities be made more resilient to violence and insecurity in an age characterized by volatility? Speakers will include Nancy Stetson (special representative for Habitat III, US Department of State), Judith Hermanson (president and CEO, IHC – Global Coalition for Inclusive Housing and Sustainable Cities), Ian Klaus (senior adviser for Global Cities, US Department of State), and Eric Rosand (director, The Prevention Project). 

This event is being organized in coordination with the Wilson Center, the Habitat III National Committee, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, the US Department of State, and IHC – Global Coalition for Inclusive Housing and Sustainable Cities.

The dialogue series is part of a formal and informal public dialogue leading to Habitat III, designed to exchange ideas on global urbanization, its significance for US foreign and domestic policy priorities, and the strategic role of cities in solving global challenges.
