Marking the 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall
The fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989, not only led to the uniļ¬ cation of Germany, thus ending decades of division and immeasurable human suffering; it also ended the division of Europe and changed the world.
Today, twenty years after this event, we are in a position to gauge which distance we have covered since. We are able to observe that in spite of continuing problems and justiļ¬ ed as well as unjustiļ¬ ed complaints, the uniļ¬ cation of Germany and Europe has been crowned with success.
