The Executive Order on the Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI EO) highlights the necessity for federal leaders to navigate new regulatory landscapes, pinpointing the inherent challenges and prospects in implementing and utilizing AI, including generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), across the federal enterprise. Shortly after the release of the AI EO, the Office of Management and Budget released a draft policy guidance that would establish AI governance structures in federal agencies, advance responsible AI innovation, increase transparency, protect federal workers, and manage risks stemming from federal government applications.

On December 19, 2024, the Atlantic Council GeoTech Center will host an invite-only virtual fireside discussion, GenAI foundations in US government: Insights from early adopters, highlighting innovative generative AI (GenAI) implementations, examining strategies employed by early adopters, and sharing lessons learned from the early adopter’s journey. Please register using the form on this page to receive webinar attendance instructions.

Discussion topics will include:

  • Innovative GenAI implementations and success stories: Explore how government and commercial organizations are using generative AI and how they measure success.
  • Lessons learned and best practices: Share insights and lessons learned in adopting GenAI, approach to selecting tools and partners, and addressing ethical considerations, data privacy, and integration with existing systems.
  • Where to start: Provide an inside take on overcoming analysis paralysis and decision fatigue, and advice to those who are curious about what you would repeat or change if you had the opportunity to go through the experience again.
