On Tuesday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security and Forward Defense initiative will host a conversation with Christopher Maier, assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low-intensity conflict, on maximizing the impact of special operation forces for future strategic challenges.

Strategic competition is likely to intensify over the next decade, placing greater demands on the United States to deter and address diverse, simultaneous security challenges across multiple domains and regions. To meet these challenges, the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Joint Force must more effectively harness the expertise of US Special Operations Forces in countering strategic adversaries.

This event will examine how the Department of Defense and the Joint Force can leverage and empower US Special Operations Forces to deter adversaries and safeguard US strategic interests in an increasingly complex global security environment. The event will serve as the launch of a new Atlantic Council report on this vital topic.

This event will take place in-person at Atlantic Council’s headquarters and will be broadcast on YouTubeXFacebook, and LinkedIn. To register for this event, please complete the form on this page.

Forward Defense leads the Atlantic Council’s US and global defense programming, developing actionable recommendations for the United States and its allies and partners to compete, innovate, and navigate the rapidly evolving character of warfare. Through its work on US defense policy and force design, the military applications of advanced technology, space security, strategic deterrence, and defense industrial revitalization, it informs the strategies, policies, and capabilities that the United States will need to deter, and, if necessary, prevail in major-power conflict.
