Rabah Arezki is a distinguished fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Freedom and Prosperity Center. Arezki is also a senior fellow with the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
He previously served as chief economist and vice president for economic governance and knowledge management at the African Development Bank, as well as chief economist for the Middle East and North Africa region at the World Bank. Arezki also served as chief of the commodities unit in the research department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he edited the IMF Research Bulletin. He also worked in research associate and fellow positions at the University of Oxford, the Brookings Institution, and the African Economic Research Consortium.
Arezki’s research focuses on a range of issues related to emerging markets, including energy, development finance, and regional geoeconomics. His work has been published in several journals, including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Nature, European Economic Review, and Economic Policy. His work has also been published by media outlets such as Foreign Policy, Politico, Al Jazeera, and Jeune Afrique. He has co-written seven books, including Beyond the Curse: Policies to Harness the Power of Natural Resources, and Coping with the Climate Crisis: Mitigation Policies and Global Coordination.
Arezki received an MS from the Ecole Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Administration Économique and a PhD in economics from the European University Institute.
