Maggie Spence is a program assistant in the Forward Defense program of the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security. She contributes to the initiative’s defense industry and innovation portfolio.
Previously, Spence was a fellow at the US Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, where she researched topics and trends relating to international military, economic, and human rights issues throughout Europe. Before joining the commission, Spence served as a global coordinator working on Sub-Saharan Africa for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – ALSAC. She has previously interned for US Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN) and has worked for The International Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Spence has an MA in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, where she focused on national security issues in Europe and Eurasia. She also holds a BA in international studies and French from Butler University. She is proficient in French.
