At this book launch event, Rana Foroohar explores how the race for Arctic supremacy will shape global economic and military supremacy.

On Thursday, October 8 at 6:00 p.m. ET, the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative will host a book launch for Sea change: America’s new great game in the Arctic Circle by Rana Foroohar, columnist and associate editor at the Financial Times.

As polar ice melts, Russia, China, the United States, and its Arctic allies are all racing to shore up their own security in the region and take advantage of emerging economic opportunities. But newfound attention on the Arctic is not matched by broad-based understanding. The realities of operating in the region continue to confound those looking to exert control at the top of the world.

In this conversation with The New Yorker’s Evan Osnos, Foroohar will discuss how the race for Arctic supremacy will shape global economic and military supremacy for decades to come.

The author will sign copies of the book beginning at 5:30 p.m., and a reception will follow the event at 7:00 p.m.

New policy: In-person attendees will be required to show photo ID upon arrival, and no on-site registration will be permitted. Guests will not be admitted later than twenty minutes after the event’s start time.
