Egypt protests

Clashes between security forces and protesters in Tahrir Square escalated dramatically on November 19 and 20, resulting in at least 35 casualties and 1,700 injuries, as riot police used tear gas, rubber bullets as well as live ammunition and attacked field hospitals in an effort to disperse the crowd. As several prominent parliamentary candidates and political groups suspended their campaigns in protest of the government crackdown, the SCAF insisted that elections will not be postponed.

TAHRIR SQUARE CLASHES:

Clashes between security forces and protesters in Tahrir Square escalated dramatically on Saturday and Sunday, resulting in at least 35 casualties and 1,700 injuries, as riot police used tear gas, rubber bullets as well as live ammunition and attacked field hospitals in an effort to disperse the crowd.  Mass demonstrations were also reported in Alexandria, Minya, Damietta, Beheira, and governorates across Egypt. Calm had returned to the square by the morning of November 21, after protesters and security forces negotiated a truce agreement on the previous night, under which government forces agreed to cease their efforts to break the sit-in and protesters would form popular committees to secure the square.
