Transatlantic Relationship Forecast: Stormy Weather Ahead

In his recent interview with the Times of London and Bild President- Elect Donald Trump strongly criticized the European Union and voiced his support of Brexit. What does this mean for the transatlantic relationship? And what could the implications be for US/EU trade? In an interview with Atlantic Council’s Fran Burwell, Ashish Kumar Sen of the New Atlanticist explores the implications of Brexit in terms of trade and commerce, the upcoming national elections taking place in multiple European Union member states, and the greater impact of President-Elect Trump’s rhetoric on Europe. “There is no correcting mechanism at the cabinet level that we see so far that would present a counterview to what Trump has said.
