On Friday, March 4, 2016 from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. the Strategy Initiative at the Atlantic Council’s Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security released its second Atlantic Council Strategy Paper, “A US Strategy for Sustainable Energy Security.”
The paper, written by the Atlantic Council’s Eurasian Energy Futures Initiative Director David Koranyi and which features a foreword by former Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, argues that responding to the growing energy needs of the developing world amidst changing climate patterns is critical to the United States’ national security and economic prosperity. Mankind has the ability to jumpstart a global energy revolution within its grasp. Though the international community took an important step towards action in Paris in December 2015, the task at hand – transformation of the entire energy value chain across the globe – is colossal, and will require political will, technological ingenuity, business acumen, and international cooperation on a whole new level. Koranyi offers a strategy for how the United States, along with its allies and partners, can aim to achieve long-term sustainable energy security.
