The event will take place on June 23 at the Atlantic Council from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
With the United States facing multiple challenges and turbulence across the world, Washington must rethink its strategy for a new global context. Thornberry, as the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, is at the forefront of helping the United States and its Armed Forces to prepare for the challenges of today and tomorrow. Already, Thornberry has worked to improve the defense acquisition system to secure America's technological superiority. At the Council, Thornberry will discuss his priorities in Congress to best position the United States to deal effectively with the defense challenges and the global security environment that impact America's present and future.
Rep. Mac Thornberry serves as Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Widely respected as an innovator and strategic thinker, he has consistently been on the leading edge of critical national security issues, has written widely on defense matters, and appears on all major cable and network television channels providing congressional insight on national security. In Congress, Thornberry has previously served on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, as well as on the Budget Committee, Resources Committee, and the Select Committee on Homeland Security. He was also tapped to Chair the Task Force on Cybersecurity in 2011 and 2012.
