On January 8 at 10:15 a.m. ET, the GeoEconomics Center will host Jan Hatzius, chief economist at Goldman Sachs, to discuss what 2026 may hold for the global economy.
The past year saw a global economy in flux, with the United States introducing new tariffs and signing a slate of bilateral deals. China responded with export controls and sought alternative markets, ultimately reaching a one-trillion-dollar trade surplus. By the end of the year, the US Federal Reserve began lowering interest rates (even as inflation stayed above target), while the European Central Bank managed to bring inflation back within its target. Meanwhile, US stablecoin regulations advanced, and Europe accelerated development of the Digital Euro.
Meanwhile, the global artificial intelligence race has accelerated—reshaping supply chains and investment flows.
In conversation with Atlantic Council Chair of International Economics Josh Lipsky, Hatzius will outline the key indicators to watch in the year ahead.
